Have added 2 Corydoras paleatus and 2 baby honey guoramis (male and female) to my small tank. settled in straight away. the Honeys came from a very crowded tank, and seem to be very active and confident. The cories were the only ones in the shop! so at some point in the future I will have to get them 3 or 4 tank mates of the same species. (they are definately wild caught, I hope they feed). The tank is running very naturally at the moment, and is now 'plant filtered' with the small powerfilter removed. More plants arriving in the week, some java moss and some floating riccia. Pics soon!

'Plant filtered' ??

Sorry, but did you cycle your tank before adding those fish?

Paul.

Heya, yes the tank was thorougly cycled for over 2.5 months before any fish were added. Its filtered using mainly loating plants. nitrite, nitrate etc and ph are all perfect, but I have a power filter (mature) on stand-by just incase.

Nice :good:

How big is the tank?
Cant wait for pics :D

heya :> the tank is a little one! 24"/8"/8".

heres a link to my website blog about the start of the tank, am leaving the fish settle in a little before I start pestring them with a camera :p

I must admit I am enjoying watching the honeys 'stalking' through the roats from my water lettuce's.

will post pics in a day or two cheers :>

I've heard about plant only filtered tanks, but they are pretty specialist stuff - way too scary for me.
I read somewhere about a woman in the US who specialises in them - cant remember her name now tho', but someone in the planted section might know.

It'd be great if you keep us up to date with progress - I assume you really keep the stocking levels very low and plant very densely ?

Good luck

Diana Walstad.

yup very dense planting in the tank, and add plants with vigorous growth (hence floaters being good).

Thanks for the interest and will do. TBH this is the 'cleanest' tank Ive ever run so far, ah and the other point with plant filtered (walstad sp?) tanks is that you add water, but dont take it away neccesarily. You have to work to keep the natural balance.

Sounds very interesting, would love to ba able to achieve something like that.

Please keep us updated!

Paul.

It would be very interesting to see how much a stable balance can be created in 6US gallons.....

It seems to have run fine for 2.5 months with snails/plants, and is currently fine.... we shall see!
