Well, i would like to stick to the rest of my stock being from the same regional area as my archerfish or my knifefish.

So either some found in Asia or Africa.. so no south American fish please
(and yes i know the rainbows are from Australia but i can make an exception for those)

So ideas or thoughts welcome! Its my 65 gallon heavily planted tank. And just to make sure, this is my current stock:
-5 Toxotes microlepis
-1 african knifefish

Thanks!

Pearl Gouramis make the perfect centerpiece fish............. :hyper:

If you chose African Butterfly Fish, you could easily do three or four, they are semi-social. Did you know there are two genetically divergent populations in the wild, that went "seperate ways" something like 65 million years ago, plus they are capable of air breathing?

thats awesome! Learn something new everyday!

So this is what im thinking.... id love a school of congo tetras but am also really keen on the upside down catfish and african butterfly fish....

any sort of stocking combination that might give me what im looking for here? Just keeping in mind that my african knifefish takes uo very little space as hes only out at dusk and night....

maybe like 6 congos, 1 african butterfly fish, and 3 upside down cats? i dont want to push things... and im more so used to stocking smaller tanks so i appreciate any help you can give me guys!

would the congos pick on the fins of the african butterfly fish?

Congo Tetras are one of the common suggested biotope tankmates for ABFs, along with Ctenopoma acutirostre and Synodontis nigriventris (and your African Knifefish).

ABFs can be fine as singeltons, but I noticed my one come out of its shell a lot more with company, but sadly one was killed by pyschotic Steatocranus casuarius parents in early November.

If you were going to stock the tetras, I would buy 3 males and 6 females, to get the males in full colours and spread any male-male aggression better.

If you were to get Synodontis nigriventris, I would again suggest a 9+ group over a trio, they are regarded as being almost as social as Corydoras but are also quite skittish. I have 12 now (I started with 3 and they were extremely reclusive), they bomb down from their daytime roosts for food, but they never shool when anybody is around. However, using my night vision video camera, I've seen them all playing mid/high- water in the pitch black!

I think your choice will ultimately come down to the personality of your Archerfishes, if they are sometimes a little boisterous at feeding time then the tetras would be fine, if they are more cautious then I'd definitely choose the calmer feeding ABFs and nigriventris.

Thanks alot! my mind was stuck on this for the past 3 days ahaha

looks like ill be going with the tetras! Wanted to add some color anyways and my archers aren't all too boisterous except when crickets are being fed, they go wild....lol

the group of 9 tetras sounds great and hopefully they kind of work as dithers for the african knifefish
