many people say that most fish can adapt to harder, more alkaline water, but just how much can cardinals take? i'm looking into getting some, but my water is quite hard around 12-14 GH and pH 7.5-7.8, could cardinals acctually live well in this?

They should be fine as long as you aclimatise (sp) them properly. Cardinals are quite hardy.

we've had cardinals in water of pH 7.8-7.9 for over 3 years with no problems. they were bought from a lfs in our area with the same very hard london tap water though & i would take extra time to acclimatise htem when you first get them as said.gorgeous little fish.
