Hi, I went to shop in Bethnal Green (London. U.K) & they had one Flounder left, it was a beautifull brick red colour but at £12.50 I wasn't sure although I loved it as I thought it may be under the gravel most of the time & I woulnd't see it so may be a waste of money. I wonder if they will go will Achirus Achirus, a simular but much smaller flat fish. I'm sure they will. I got 3 of the Achirus Achirus.

Anyone know how much time they spend under the gravel?

They spend all day under the gravel. But like other flounders, at night will be actively swimming about feeding.

Do check where this flounder comes from. Wholesale Tropicals often sells flounders under the wrong name. Achirus lineatus is much more common, but then again, the subtropical species Trinectes maculatus is even more common. The species Wholesale Tropicals sells as Brachirus pan seems to be some other Brachirus species, perhaps B. orientalis. If in doubt, I'd keep them all in slightly brackish (SG 1.005-ish) water that isn't too warm, perhaps 24 C.

Cheers, Neale

Thanks.

I've got them in my new 3rd tank (2nd Brackish), they had both types (they listed as Achirus Achirus & a bigger flat fish they listed as Flounder, don't know if they are the same but the larger 1 just an adult, it was a different colour to all the Achirus who inturn differed in colour a bit to each other.
