We all have different experiences and ideas. Whatever those are lets find out what the most popular acclimation method members of TFF use.

Hmm, it would have helped if you'd provided specifics for what each method entails.

Since I'm pretty sure my method is a combination of several.

I.e.

I float the bag, well open the top and emmerse it and pin the top to the side with a clothespeg so the store water doesn't get into my tank.

Over the course of 45 mins-an hour, i keep adding small amounts of my tank water to the store water in the fishbag until its about half store, half my water.

After this I lift the bag out, and pour the water into a net over a bucket (so none of their water goes in my tank) then I have the fish in the net then quickly pop him in.

So tell me, what should I vote then?

Float method being the most practical for it's owner. It the introduction envoles a change in salinty or major water chemistry for the fish then I use the old drip method but generally the float method is fine. I don't personally use any because I have a Fintro. A device from Maidenhead Aquatics that does it all for you.

I float them in the bag for 20 mins then cut the bag open and add some of my fish water and pin it to the top so it's still floating for another 20 mins then release the whole bag in

1. Take your fish home as quickly as possible and avoid rough handling. Do not remove fish bags from the outer bags. (if your LFS double bags.)

2. Turn off the aquarium lights.

3. Float the bag in your aquarium or pond for approximately 5 minutes.

4. Untie or cut a knot and roll down the top down to make the bag float.

5. Gradually introduce some of your pond or aquarium water into the bag.

6. Repeat step 5 every 5-10 minutes.

7. After 30-60 minutes release your fish into their new home.

8. Do not turn on aquarium lights for at least 1 hour.

9. Avoid feeding your pond/aquarium on the day of adding any new fish.

I have never heard of a "plob method" what exactly is it?

Since topics on acclimation have been posted frequently I didn't give it much of a thought. The following are explanations of these methods.

In short, plop method is as follows:

1. Turn off the aquarium lights.
2. Float the bag in your tank/pond for about 15 minutes.
3. Release fish straight away in to the tank/pond.

Actually, that is the float method or a variation thereof. The plop method is simply when you get home, you plop the fish right into the tank. Basically, no acclimation at all.

syntax, do you live near Charlotte or did you just happen to find that site with a Google search?

I plop the fish in with the bag, float 30 minutes-1 hour, drain the bag through a net to catch the fish, then release.

That's funny. This link that you provided is from the Charlotte Area Aquarists Society. Im a member of that forum but it's not very active. Mainly marine fish. Charlotte is only about 5 miles from where I live.
