what sized tank do they need?

I think a three foot tank would be a minimum. A four foot would be better, because then you could keep a small shoal of Congo Tetras in with them. Years ago, I had a three foot tank with ABF, Amazon Leaf, Schomburgk's Leaf Fish, along with some various oddball cats. One of my favorite tanks ever.

 

[Oddities]

When i was doing research for them i read a lot that a 20 gallon long was enough for one as long as they had no other fish competing for surface space, but my experience with them is limited to a 55 gallon long.
