When i done water changes with buckets, easy 1 out for 1 in ratio bucket exchange & treated accordingly. Since i started using a python no science take water out replace it, no count of litres so treat the whole tank, now with 6 tanks including a 6x2x2 that's a whole lot of water conditioner. So if i work out roughly how many litres of water I'm taking out in say 2 inches using a volume calculator, would i get away with treating the water for just a little over than what i took out?

Yes its fine, you cannot over dose with dechlorinator without doing something very stupid like pouring half a dozen bottles straight into the tank so adding a little more than is needed is fine. I do my water changes in the same way and just add dechlorinator for the ammount of new water going in.

Heres a tip for you, if you are using a lot of conditioner then using a pond dechlorinator will save you a lot of money, i use the Kockney Koi pond dechlorinator and a litre bottle has lasted me 10 months so far and is only half used, bare in mind i change somewhere around 250 gallons of water a week and thats a hell of a saving compared to using a bottle of stress coat every two weeks.

how much is pond dechlorinator cfc???is it lots cheaper than stress coat????

Cheers for tip CFC i brought the 5 litre bottle of Tetras Aquasafe which i thought would last for ages until i started using the Python.

The bottle of pond dechlorinator cost me £18 and should last me around 20 months, stress coat was costing me £13 every two weeks so yes there is a substantial saving.

thanks.i'll get some this morning.will any pond dechlorinator be ok,or,should i look out for a specific make????

Thanks for the tip CFC - shall have to get some myself.

Apparently Waterlife's product (dont know the name but KathyM uses it) is much better value for money too as you use less compared to King British or the like, if you dont need as much as us big tank owners do!
