I wouldnt use Bleach but it may be ok - Why not use hot water and some of the cleaning stuff you can buy from an LFS - theres cleaning products and as theyre for an aquarium they must be safer than bleach.
I'd be worried about any trace being left in there - although my grandad used to clean our bowl out with Jeyes Fluid and then rinse it out for 10 minutes under the tap and Fred our goldfish lived for 13 years when i was a kid.

You can clean with bleach, just dilute the bleach 1:10 with water. Rinse very very thouroughly. Rinse some more. Rinse once more for good measure, then pour a few tablespoons of dechlor directly on whatever you were cleaning. Rinse once more.

Use Cooking Salt (not Table Salt)from your local supermarket, It's all you need, I've been using it for 25 years..

I heard using Bleach was a bad idea, Glass is slightly porous and can hold bleach, if you dont fully rinse the glass it can get released back into the tank. Definately do not use cleaning gravel or shells, use lots of water or boil em

Hi germanshepherdlver :)

I usually clean my tanks with salt as well. You could use just a little bleach, but if you do, be certain to rinse it well and add a generous amount of dechlorinator to the final rinse water. Then, let it dry completely before using it.

I would only recommend that you use bleach if your tank is small enough to wash in the sink or bathtub. I learned the hard way about how hard it is to get bleach our of a 55 gallon tank! :*)

A good wash out with a strong saline solution of Cooking Salt will sterilize your tanks. I dont think there's any freshwater pathogen that can transfer to a marine environment. Therefore salt is the most natural method.

I use bleach, around a 1:15 mix. As long as it isn't something really porous like wood, it should be fine. I rinse with water with double the dechlor, then rinse again with fresh water. Never had a problem.

The reason I use bleach is that it's always down here in the laundry room. If salt worked better, or bleach gave me problems, I'd buy salt. Bleach is already paid for.
