I have a 55 gallon tank right now, here's what lives in there.

1 Angel
1 Pictus Cat
1 Rainbow Shark
5 Tetras
5 Zebra Danios
1 Opaline Gourami

I used to have the gourami in a 10 gallon tank along with another gourami, but one of them died. I figured it was because 10 gallons wasn't big enough for 2 of them and the second one just didn't make it. So is 55 gallons big enough to get a second?

What would you suggest?

Thanks

55 gallon is provides more than enough rooms for a second gourami.

If i were you i'd also look at getting 1-2 more pictus cats

Happy fishkeeping :)

Does it matter if the second one is an opaline or not? I was hoping to get a gold or paradise probably.

Dont go for Paradise unless they all go in @ the same time.

Paradise are very docile and get picked on.

Hi noclueman :)

There's room in your tank for another gourami and any of the standard gouramis would be fine. The gold, blue 3 spot and Opaline gouramis are color variations of the same fish, so the color doesn't really matter.

I would defiantly not recommend a paradise fish because while they are anabantoids, they are no more gouramis than bettas are. They are not usually good community tank fish because they tend to be aggressive especially toward smaller fish and often toward their own kind as well. Another thing that would not make them fit in is that they prefer cooler temperatures than most tropical fish. Here's a link with more information about them:

Hope this helps. :D
