I think this would be a neat project. I may wanna do a 55 gallon South American Tank. Here are my stocking ideas.

A few Convicts,
3 or sp Pictus Catfish
A few Angels (one or two)
Discus (one or two)
And a black ghost knife
Pleco

I believe all these are natively from South American. I'm pretty sure some of these won't mix together but I don't know which ones won't, so I need your help with stocking. Only one thing, they all need to be South American by origin.

I agree... the discus and angles will be bothered beyond belief by the convicts, which are actually MORE agressive than my old oscars were... (3 convicts beat the hell outta my 6" oscar), also the BGK gets waaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy too big for that tank! If you want a 55gallon cichlid tank, I'd suggest some discus and angles, then mabye a nice school of 10 or so cory cats... no pictus for sure, they'll bother the hell outta your discus too!

I agree with the convicts bothering the angels..... I'm thinking it would lead to some losses in your stock, which we don't want.

just wondering....(sorry for the post hijack) how big of a tank for a BGK???

My convicts liked eating my pictus cats and my brown knife..

Those fish listed aren't compatible.. The only thing that might survive would be the pleco.. even then, my convicts liked eating my 7'' pleco.

They max out about 20" and need to be able to turn around completely in the tank, so most tanks that are XX"x24"x24" should be fine.
