Starting up my aquarium after a few years of sitting in the garage. When I first started it up, I was running an Aquaclear 50 and a Tetra 30. Planning on running both again. Doing some research last few days and I’m wondering if I’m exceeding the Max GPH for this tank. My main reason for doing this was that I like the idea of cleaning the filters on opposite weeks to keep the bacteria going and the fact that I can run different media types in each. Charcoal and bio bag in the Tetra and sponge/floss/bio mass in the AquaClear. Any help for a newbie would be great. Thanks guys!

It would be fine to run both as long as the fish dont mind a little more current. But I would run sponges in both and use the biomax in addition if you wish. But there is no need for the charcoal.. it is mainly used to remove meds after treating the tank for a disease.

In my 35 gallon tank, I run an aquaclear50 and a Hydor sponge filter with good results. I rinse out the sponges in tank water every two weeks. I use a layer of floss in the AC as well and replace it every 2 weeks. Sponges hardly ever need replacing. By cleaning the sponges instead of replacing, you dont lose much BB. And with time BB builds up on your substrate as well.
