Im really confused what to do as i have been trying research the diff types of fish i want and if they are compatible. I found out that the fish i want (cory catfish, neon tetras, 1 betta) are compatible. But I also want 2 angel fish. I have read everywhere that angel fish will eat neon tetras but both fish shops i have visited keep them together and say it will be fine and there are no problems between them. I asked 1 of the fish shops if a betta could go with angel fish but he said the bettas have to be kept on their own and cant be in any community tank at all. I know they cant go in a tank with other bettas but i also know they are good community fish as i have done my research!! Please help as my tank is ready to get a few fish in a couple of days and am confused!! x

You might want to refference that research as its very innacurate, Bettas are in no way a community fish, LFS may keep them together because 1) It will help reach a wider range of buyers 2) if fish die, its not a huge loss on a whole for a fish store.

At the end of the day, its your risk, personly I wouldnt risk the health of all my fish for the sake of one with big unatural looking fins :) but it is all personal prefference.

I answers the neons and angels question in another topic.

i have neons and a betta, from my experience don't......neons are cheeky fin nippers.....not aggressive but they do cause damage......I'm going to be returning mine to LFS, probably going for harlequin rasboras instead, as they are non aggressive to anything else :)

at the end of the day its down to fish individuals, as in the case some bettas won't tolerate any other fish, but I think you just have to be prepared....and have maybe a back up tank, or a way of sectioning off the tank if the worst happens.
My betta also lives with zebra danios which people will tell you are a no-go fish for bettas, but my betta loves the danios, I swear sometimes he tries to join in with their hyperactivity! :good:

in my tank i had a male betta with neons and four angelfish and i had no problems it really depends on each individual fish
