i plan on getting the fish my uncle use to have which are oscars how many can go in the 150G? hopefully at least two cause i want a pair and can you tell oscars females from males at about 2 inches?. im not yet sure what to get for the 80G tank :D

thanks for all advice :D

I think a pair of Oscar's would be fine in the 150. You have to be careful with the numbers of them though, the standard guidelines are that you keep 1, a breeding pair, or 6 or more. Obviously there's exceptions to the rule but it's a good guideline. You can't just get 2 adult Oscar's and expect them to get along. Get them as babies together, or buy them as a breeding pair and they'll be fine, otherwise they'll kill each other. And just leave it at 2, you don't have room for 6 and any less than that they'll kill each other, they're lovely friendly fish to humans but can eb very very agressive towars each other so you have to be careful stocking them.

If you just wanted to keep one, it would be fine in the 80g.

Personally I'd put 1 in the 150g with some other large cichlids. Then I'd do a really nice planted community with the 80g, loads of shoals of small fish, would be beautiful :good:

good luck and have fun, Oscar's are great fish :D

thanx. ill get one oscar then "some other larger cichlids" wat would be good ones?

you also have to be careful mixing other fish with Oscar's. All cichlids have they're own personalities, some Oscar's won't tolerate any companions, some will cope with all sorts.

I've found they tend to get on best with other fish who they've grown up with, so if you decide what you want and put them all in together as juveniles you've more chance of them getting on.

If you have a look in the cichlids section of the Fish Index I'd look for things that get to at least 7/8 inches and are a bit agressive. Anything too small/docile will get bullied.

Have a look for some things you like and then post back in the New World Cichlids Forum, there's loads of people who keep Oscar's there who can help you decide what's best.

:D
