Wouldn't have thought it made much difference either way, provided there was sufficient distance between one cave and the next. Try it, and see what happens.

I've read that bumble bee gobies like caves. Should these caves be strictly 'distributed' horizontally (over the substrate)? Could I go up, forming a series of caves on a wall? Dunno.gif
I agree with Neale on this, try it out and see what the results are. If you leave a large enough distance between each cave you should probably be fine, bumble bee gobies are territorial, and just like any other territorial fish, they need their territory.
 
Planting Brackish Aquaria may help you out a bit. Most seagrasses wont tolerate an SG below full marine conditions, but there are some species that are brackish (high-end I assume). Another option could be Widgeon Grass though. I plan on extending my thread on brackish plants to include widgeon grass actually.
