I've never had a problem with my otto sucking on another fish's slime coat... and as for the shrimp, I don't think they have a slime coat, but I've never thought of it myself.

I have never heard of otos sucking slime coats of other fish. Chinese Algae Eaters do it, but they are not closely related and not at all similar in general behaviour.

The funny thing is that Ottos and small chinese algae eaters look a lot alike. Where did you get them?
