How do I get rid of this slimy green algae?

@Colin_T I did wonder, but someone earlier in this thread suggested using it, which is why I asked. I'd prefer not to put extra stuff in the tank. So if I just keep doing water changes and cleaning, I should be able to conquer it? Thanks for the reply

How do I get rid of this slimy green algae?

Thanks again for all the replies. I cleaned up as much of the stuff as I could, did a 50% water change and wrapped up the tank for 5 days. When I opened it up again, it looked very clean and bright. Holding my breath, I waited to see what happened over the next couple of days. Sadly, after...

How do I get rid of this slimy green algae?

Thanks to both of you for the replies. @MaloK - I'm surprised at such big water changes. I thought these were bad for the fish, as the sudden change of temperature and chemistry would shock them. I've always gone for 30% max.

So more regular water changes and cutting down on the food should help? Thanks again.

How do I get rid of this slimy green algae?

Not sure of the spec as I bought it years ago when I was growing carnivorous plants, and needed a strong daylight bulb. I remember that the colour temperature is around 6000K, but can't remember any more. Ambient light is probably slightly higher than an average room, as there is a skylight not...

How do I get rid of this slimy green algae?

Thanks to both of you for the quick replies. I was wondering about a complete tear-down. I can move the fish to a temporary home, then clean out the tank, get new gravel and plants (I have plenty Elodea in another tank) and try again. If I'm careful, I should be able to cycle the tank without...

How do I get rid of this slimy green algae?

I have a freshwater tropical tank, 24"x12"x12", which houses an angel, six neon tetras and a small catfish (pleco I think). Substrate is gravel, filtration is via an Eheim canister in the corner. I have some Elodea planted around the tank. My problem is that everything gets covered with a slimy...

Simple advice needed on brine shrimp care

Basically nothing. When I first did it, I just syphoned some of the water and shrimp into the cup, then each week I topped up the cup with some of the water from that week's hatching. This of course brought more babies along, so the cup got quite busy. Apart form dropping some grains of yeast...

Simple advice needed on brine shrimp care

Well mine were in a regular plastic cup for about 5 or 6 weeks before I moved them! They were doing fine in there. As I said, I think the problem was the temperature. I have some hatching at the moment. When they are ready, I'm going to put some in a plastic cup as before, put it on top of the...

@MaloK Thanks for that, didn't know you could get ones so small!

Simple advice needed on brine shrimp care

@MaloK Hmm, that probably explains why they died. I guess being under the main tank lamp warmed them more than I thought. Have to work out a way of warming the small tank. Not sure if they make heaters that small. Thanks again
