Thanks all, I don't put water directly on tomato plant, just at the bed, I feel it will be ok, sort of agree it will have fertilizer effect more than anything, will keep you posted :good:

I've done a quick search for the answer to this but cant find anything related, maybe it's obvious but I just want to be sure,,,, can I use the old water after a water change on my plants (tomato, some flowers etc) in the garden? I'm on a water meter and seems a waste to throw away and then...

I often wondered about this, I have a Juwel tank with 5 filters but could never see the point in changing the filters as per makers instructions, they are plastic so dont degrade,,, i do change the top filter every so often as it's thin and comes apart, but the others i rinse in newly removed...

put just a small amount of fish in,, imagine you can see the build up of bacteria on the filter, hey you can even look at the filter, it will show when its starting to build up,, (bit of a rough guide I know but its how I saw it) then put more fish in.. enjoy 1-3 small fish living happy at first...

quickest way to cycle a tank is with ammonia, and you have to be very careful what you are doing and this even takes weeks, there's no way I know (or I could be proven wrong) to cycle a tank by simply putting in a bottle off the self, start slow and build up your fish..

Temp is on 30c at moment, I think we both read same thread. I will drop it back down again when cycle finishes - I'm pleased it's going OK up to now :rolleyes:

Hi folks After reading posts on here, I decided to take plunge, buy a second tank and carry out fishless cycle.. stats are: 13/6/07 added 5ml ammonia to get reading of 8ppm 15/6/07 Ammonia 6ppm Nitrite 0 ? 16/6/07 Ammonia 4ppm Nitrite 0.5ppm 17/6/07 Ammonia 0 Nitrite 5 - added 4ml...

Hi folks Have just got my second tank, 75 litre (I must be getting the fish bug))) :rolleyes: Have not even cleaned / filled it yet..Anyway, I was thinking of how to get things started. Which tank cycle is the best? (meaning fastest)) Ammonia fishless or simply move some filter medium gravel...

Thanks for this, tap readings (as good as I can tell) show Nitrate between 10-20 ppm. I've had look at local water board data and apparently standard is anything below 50ppm! - and there is problems with high Nitrates in some parts of this area... :angry...

Thanks "archamfr" for quick response, tank has been running since October... cycled with platies (did not know better...) I never get any other readings for ammoinia, nitrite than 0 so assume all is cycled,,,,

First, sorry, the answers to my Qs are probably on here, but I cant seem to find :blush: I have high readings of Nitrate levels (usually 50 - 60?? ppm) before water change which I do every week (20%) - there seems to be high levels in my tap water... but the test kit I have API is difficult...

Platy or I think Platies - Google it, on "Image" mode,, - check out "Swordtails" as well, both good :D :D
