From what I was told, just give them a mixture of food since they will get tired and bored of just simply 1 product. A mixture of shrimp pellet, veggie rounds, sinking wafers and frozen bloodworms will keep the cories happy.
From what I've heard, as long your other fishes dont have long fins and colorful, chances are, the betta wouldn't attack. I think you would be fine with them. I personally have 1 betta in a community tank and he hasnt nip any of them since he is very calm.
The substrate that i have in my 10G tank is play sand. As for the lump, it's appormixitely about of it's eyes which is about a couple MM? I'm guessing 4-5 or so.

I spotted a lump on his belly but it's very hard to take a pic of him since he's moving around alot but I found a pic and just added a diagram to it.. Does anyone know what it is?
