    Neon tetra disease

Usually stress can trigger neon tetras disease so if fish are wll kept and from good stock, they will be less likely to get it. Also neon tetra disease does not only occur in neon tetras. Other symptoms may include lumpy appearance or curveture to the spine. I have had 3 neons for 2 months...

    Water changes

So would you recommend running water through the brita before putting it in the tank. I have high mineral count in my water, will the brita help to soften it at all?

    Heeeeelllllpppppp!!!  snails!!!

You can get them when you put new live plants in your tank. If you want to get rid of them naturally add a loach or two, clowns are best or you can do it chemically but I own a loach so I have no idea what to use.

    Fish attacks?

I was just curious, will larger agressive fish have a go at fingers in the tank? How do you do maintainance ect. if you are afraid to put your hand in?

    Territorial fish

I have done the same with barbs but never oscars. An Oscar introduction sounds gutsy. Another method is to change the tank decor when you add the new fish, but I think that works better when you put non aggressives in with agressives that are pre established.

    Death death death

You need to buy a book on begining fish keeping. It is going to save you a lot of time and money in the long run. It is better to read something and know it then to ask a fish store because their main priority is often just to sell fish. If you still have fish in the tank, read about them...

    Tanins and peat

First of all, I am a poor college student 1 and a 1/2 hours from the lake. Second I'm not taking a pilgrimage to get a twig from a lake that is so dirty it would probably burn holes in my tanks glass. I'm just being sarcstic, sorry. I live on 2 lakes right here on the isthmus so I can go take...

    Tanins and peat

Thank godness the whole tea thing never really caught on here in the states. So tanins won't make my tetras look better?

    Clown fish

yeah are you sure you mean clown fish and not clown loach. I don't know of any marine fish that would like to be in a tropical tank, and clown fish are definently marine fish.

    Tropical weather

Are you people speaking English? Sometimes I find it so difficult to understand what you are writing. It must be a culture gap. Don't you have carp in England? We have them everywhere in the States and they suck. Eat all the game fish and get enormous. Prime example of non native species...

    Tropical weather

Don't put them in your river!!! I have read that they have had big problems with the buggers in south australia. They polute the water much like carp. The suggested temp is 22 c, thats all I know about putting them in tropical.

    Zebra danio's

I had three danios in my tank, 1 zebrea, 1 leopard and 1 blue. I had to take them out when I got tetras cause they chased them around, it is said that zebras in larger groups of about5 will lose interest in chasing because there are too many targets.

    Neon nippers?

Your new tank sounds like it will have a few fish similar to mine. I did have problems with my neons getting nipped at first. My glowlight actually did most of the damage. One neon was bit down to stubs but has regrown completly. I think there are more problems when keeping smaller numbers...

    Tanins and peat

Isn't there an easier way to put tanins in a tank? Driftwood is so expensive. And what will peat do to the water? By the way thanks for all the help Rose, I decided not to plant my tank because of my fear of snail infestation.
