Silly question time:   I purchased a power head which has really increased flow around the tank, (got it on half power as it seemed to be way too strong). Should this be on a timer so that the fish get a bit of calmer water at times?

With mature media going in you'll be seeing results soon. You need to find that ammonia to add to top it up a bit. Whereabouts in the country are you? Do you have a toolstation store nearby? They have lots of outlets and it's where I got mine originally.

Totally agree with what CezzaXV said about week 5.
