I've had the tank set up for 9 months now and never had any problems before now :/ I'll keep testing the water and do changes accordingly thanks for the advice
I'm using an API Master Test kit so I think it's pretty reliable I've just tested the water levels and they are:
pH 7.6
Ammonia 0.0ppm
Nitrite 0.0ppm
Nitrate 0.0ppm
I've now added an airstone to break the water surface and see if that helps at all, not really sure what else to do other then...
I added 2 platies to my 80L fish tank (not sure of the brand) and all was ok but I did have a mini ammonia spike which has gone now after 2 50% water changes and after a water change yesterday my levels are
ammonia 0ppm
nitrite 0ppm
nitrate 10ppm
pH 8.0
I was thinking the gulping at the top...
Yeah I used to do the water levels daily when I first got my tank, I mean I only checked it because I just added 2 new fish even though I've had the tank set up for 9 month now I suppose, I just through because it's not particularly small (80L) I thought it's better to be safe then sorry...

my ammonia is 0 now but I'll test it again tomorrow, I'm a bit annoyed because I've just...

it's an 80L tank I've got 13 cardinal tetras, 2 Platies and one plec about 2" long.
I'll test the ammonia again because I did a water change last night and...
Hi my names Viki and I've just joined the forums.

my levels are
ammonia 0.25mg/l
nitrite 0mg/l
nitrate 10mg/l...
