The pond may in fact be on his property, but anything you add to a pond effects the whole system. Fish have and do pick up fish and drop them in other "natural" habitats. Why not help her dad put in a small goldfish pond (the 3 ft deep type) next Spring?

Why would a tank (cycled and in normal parameters) smell like cilantro?

In my experience, danios and gouramis get along fine. I have both in my 55 gallon tank with no problems.

I have slate, red and gray, that I got at my lfs. I also have a few pieces that I picked up at the local plant nursery store. I have a couple of graite bits that I got an old quarry, too. The slate is pretty easy to break up if you need to and you can use aquarium sealant on it without a problem.

I doubt they died of disease. NONE have died since they were born, not one which I found encouraging and surprising. All that is in that tank were them and two otos, oh...and two tiny apple snails. I set that tank up specifically for a nursery. I'm so disappointed.
