I've had a similar issue with my honey gourami. If the problem persists, you could try rearranging the tank to give it something new to explore.

Thanks for the explanation! So I went back to the LFS and talked to the guy and he said that he knows for sure that its a male since he saw it color up. Mine still hasn't colored up but he brought up that it may not show any color if there isn't another female for him to show off to. I'm not...

Thanks for the response! I wasn’t sure since the stripe doesn’t go all the way to they eye like some pictures show. If it really is a female it sounds like I got lucky since they are apparently hard to find.
