Hello Everyone! New And Need Advice !

It usually takes longer than two weeks to properly cycle a tank. How did you do it? I wouldn't even dream about adding anymore fish until I can prove my filter is processing all ammonia and nitrite to '0'.   Terry.

How Long To Mature My Filters?

Months, probably. An easier option is take some of your already mature media from the filter/s in the big tank and transfer as much as you safely can into your new filter/s for your shrimp tank. Job done.   Terry.

Finally Upgrade From Biorb 7Gal To A Proper Fluval 33Gal

Great choice...always nice to see hobbyists increasing tank size for their fish!   1/ The Fluval 206 is a great choice, a very popular external filter. I had the 205 so no doubt this is slightly better still. 2/ Your substrate depends on what fish you have in the future and what you personally...

    New Tank Set Up

Have you looked at the Eheim range? The 'Aquaball' range of internal filters are superb. I have one for my 115 litre tank, cost around £40.   Terry.

    Do I Need A Pleco

I would much prefer to control the amount of food I put into my tank instead of worrying that I may have to have a lot more fish I may not need. One main culprit of fish tank upsets, especially with new hobbyists, is over-feeding. Yes, certain fish need certain dietary requirements and some even...

    Do I Need A Pleco

If your tank is big enough then you can quite easily have one. They can and do get very big over time which a lot of people make the mistake of not realising...some will require certain woods in the tank to eat They will live comfortably with Cory, providing the Cory are in a nice little group...

Fishes Swimming At The Top Of The Tank

Stop feeding them so much...bits of uneaten food is going to compose and add to the ammonia already in your tank water. Fish won't die if they are not fed for a few days, during this time continue to change as much water as and when your test kit tells you to. Stop using this ammonia remover...

    Changing Filter Media

As long as you keep the media that you may have 'grown' in there, there shouldn't be an issue. A properly cycled tank will prove results of NitrAte...either you have a MASSIVELY planted tank, are doing big daily water changes OR your tank is not fully cycled.... did you see readings of ammonia...

    Beginner Stocking

I would like to mention Ember Tetra here, especially given your tank is smaller than 100L.   Terry.   PS- stick with this fish supplier, always refreshing to see shops using some sort of quarantine.

    Changing Filter Media

So is the tank and filter properly cycled? What are your water test results if so? Don't change filter media until it is literally falling apart in your hands. Ditch the carbon. It's only used for removing medications and is taking up space for better media (ie;ceramics). No beneficial bacteria...

Adding Sand To My Established Tank

It would be pretty pointless in my opinion...your water changes, usual filter flow and fish would spread the sand around the tank, unless of course you have a BIG tank and using ALOT of sand.Depending what size and shape gravel you have now there may be no need to include sand...rub some between...

    Which Filter ?

Crystal clear water is near impossible in a living fish tank, but by adding more filter floss to a filter (or use a small internal filter full of the stuff, changing weekly) can help keep it that little bit more 'polished'. As for the filter, I am a Fluval fan...a little research should point...

    Is This Ok Stocking?

Four or five Angels plus the Redtail shark is asking for trouble. What I would do, personally, is be confident that my double filtration is up and running as it should be. I presume you are simply setting this new tank up THEN adding stock? If so I would, as berryattack mentioned, prove a...

    Tank Revamp Questions

As long as the bucket is big enough, then yes it shouldn't be an issue. Include some cover in the bucket with them, cover it with a large dark towel and place it out of the way of other people in the house (as I found out once!). It's probably best to continue running your filter and heater in...

    Buying My First Fish...

If you haven't already, invest in a liquid based test kit for the ammonia and nitrite, also PH. Try and include in any update that you state exactly what the ammonia and nitrites are reading. Also, be prepared to be expected to carry out, quite possibly, regular water changes. As KittyKat...
