Ive never seen ammonia in a lfs, i got mine from a local DIY store. If you do that make sure its additive free though, has to be pure ammonia. A Good way to test it is shake the bottle up, if it foams its no good, if it doesnt its good to go....

I see what your saying, but it would still be doing the equivilent of doing something like an 80% - 90% water change, which people tend to avoid unless something is seriously wrong as it can harm the fish. You may get away with it with no problems, but there is a risk there, id still run the...

You should still cycle it before you add fish, itl probably be a lot quicker than starting from new but its still necessary. If you added your fish now you'd run the risk of loosing a few of them, or at the very least permenently harming their health...

They grow pretty fast though, mine went from 2" to 5" in under a year...
