    Fish Pictures

I don't know how others do it, but I use a digital camera - nothing fancy, but one with a relatively good resolution. Mine is 3.2 mega pixels. I don't use flash. I've had some luck with natural aquarium lighting with and w/o room lighting. Flash is too intense for a close up. A real cool...

    endlers!

Coloration doesn't appear until the Endler or guppies are more mature, about 6 weeks. Fry will all look like they are all female, silvery and plain. Then suddenly, almost at an instant, the male will have their spots and iridescent display of blues, greens and orange, etc. The one's in the...

    endlers!

Not all Endler's may be as pure as they are thought to be as they can be easy mistaken for guppies and could easiy breed with guppies. I bought some feeder fish a while back that were sold a "feeder guppies." I actually wanted them as pets, but as they grew, the male developed their color in a...

how big should guppy fry be to be put back in tank

I wait until they are about 1/2 inch. Of course, I have new fry that I never remove and they do fine. They are always in groups away from the bigger fish or they just hide. My females produce so fast and so many that I can't always remove the fry.

    Bredding guppies??

I have a 10 gallon tank also. I started with about 8 females and 5 males. They've been breeding constantly. I get an average of 20 fry per month. The only thing you need to encourage breeding is to have a ratio of 2 to 3 males per every female.

    Molly Fry

My son's Molly just gave birth today to about 10 new fry. Would they be safe in the same tank with the two adults (male & female) in a 3.5 gal tank? They have enough hiding places and that's where they are now under shelter. I know my Guppy tank is just fine with fry. I have about 40 fry...

    Wild Guppy update...

I love feeder guppies. They are so hardy. They live in my tank without a heater. Their favorite food is live Tubiflex worm and brine shrimp. My half dozen females have produced over 100 fry (I lost count) since I got them in May. :D

    Wild Guppies

I have a dozen feeders, male and female with 6 male fancies and 1 female fancy . I'm waiting to see what the fry is going to look like. The fry are only about two weeks old so I can't tell yet. :dunno:

    Guppies

I'm new to guppies and have had good and bad luck. My recent best luck with guppies is when I purchased a batch of feeder guppies after losing serveral fancy ones due to who knows what (being a newbie to guppies, or buying old and sick guppies, or water condition, etc). I started 5 months ago...

    Water Level

    Thanks, all! Great answers.

    Water Level

Is there a rule for the amount of water in a tank? I've always filled my tanks to the rim so that I don't see the water line at the top. If I have a 10 gallon tank, don't I want 10 gallons in a tank? :S

    Algae Eater

I agree. I just added one in my tank and plan to add maybe one or two more. They don't bother other fish and others don't bother them. Oto's are great. Mine is pretty active.

    Baby guppies..

I'm raising my babies in the same tank as the adult guppies and my 3 first-borns are about half inch now. I've had them in a 3 gallon tank with only feeder guppies for about 4 months and I get lots of fry. If you have enough hiding places for the little ones, they won't get eaten. So far so good.

    Bumblee Goby & Kosher/Sea Salt ?

I keep things simple in the tank (my daughter's). I use a mixture of a teaspoon per 5 gallons of water with Doc Wellfish's Aquarium Salt for freshwater fish. As it says, it's for freshwater so it's not so brackish, but my goby seems pretty happy. I have my cute little Goby in a 3 gallon tank...

    Guppy Problem

Just to tell you about my experience, I never had any luck with Guppies and for that matter, any fish. They die in my tank - until - ...as an experiment, I removed my pump and filter. After that, I never lost a guppy. I am speculating that the guppies can't handle the stress of water current...
