My ammonia still seems to be up near 5 ppm although i 'think' its slightly paler.
The artificial plants and the filter seem to have a thin layer of white 'stuff' on...its kind of floaty where some is coming away from things and has an appearance similar to limescale...what is it and do I need to...
Thank you Gvilleguy...will get some of that. Meanwhile, have added the ammonia so to about 5 ppm so will test daily now. Thank you for all the advice so far :)
Thank you :)
Well, just tested the tap water and here are the results:
ammonia 0
nitrite 0
nitrate 0 (possible trace as tiny tint of colour)
Will get ammonia tomorrow and start 'proper' cycling. Sadly, very excited about it!
Ok, at the risk of repeating myself I'll paste my first post here:
On Dec 27th I set up the tank. I rinsed the gravel and put this in the tank. I then filled the tank after treating the water for chlorine. Chlorine levels are fine. I added the filter and heater and turned them both on. Both are...
I'm going to set up a thread later as TRYING to do a fish less cycle. I've just been to the local aquatic centre and bot a Nutrafin mini test kit (They didnt do the API one)Was told it was just as good, but wanted to check on here as their advice tro date hasn't been fab. It tests for ammonia...

I really appreciate this and feel more hopeful that my...
Sorry, this may be a bit confusing...I'm hoping for some advice as to what I should do next regarding cycling for my new aquarium as I'm getting a bit confused!
So my DD got the aquarium for Christmas. It is a 90L AquaEl tank. I'll go through the steps I've done so far...
On Dec 27th I set up...
Hi Lloyd,
I'm cycling fish-less but I'm not convinced I've been given the right advice. I've read the thread about cycling and it's completely different from what I've been doing.
I'll post later with full details so I can have some advice where to go from here. :)
Before posting elsewhere, I thought I'd say 'hi'!
I'm new to fish keeping as my DD got an aquarium for Christmas. We are going to keep tropical fish (hopefully...not having much luck with the ol cycling at the moment!!) I'm determined to get everything right, so would welcome advice from you...
