    Recommendations?

All the bettas I've bought from Thailand via Aquabid have outlived the ones I get from my local PetCo. The fish aren't that expensive, it's the shipping that kills you. I recommend buying all the fish you want one time so that you get the max out of your shipping fee.

    What Sex Is 'it'

Males will also have much, much larger crests when they flare. Females flare, but only have a slight crest that protrudes from the gills. Males can be very large, and very round. I vote male.

    Lack Of Females :(

I understand that, sure. I go made in the USA first whenever I buy something. However, we're talking fish. If you get a weak fish from a breeder, it dies. Some people have a really hard time when their fish die.

    Male Betta Splendens ....

It's interesting that your bettas are middle/ toppers. Mine are toppers/ bottomers.

    Oops, I Have Betta Babies

#92###, I hate it when people try to sell their opinions as fact. I met a guy at my local PetCo who has a 180 gallon rectangle tank with about 20 betta fish in it, males and females. They're all mature enough that they look just like the ones you buy in the cups at the LPS. Even the parents...

    Mirrors

I recommend switching your lighting to florescent, or if you have to, compact florescent. Incandescent lighting causes the reflections you're seeing. Some bettas will be fine with it. Others will stress out. I've seen a number of bettas under incandescent lighting with bowfront plastic...

    Minimum For Soriority?

I was able to keep 12 females in a 20 gal. Use lots of rocks and lots of live plants to give them plenty of territory. Add at least 5 the first time in order to keep them from killing one another. If you can add all at once, that's much better than starting with a couple and adding them over...

    Snail Question

If the tank is planted, add snails. Snails are great when it comes to aerating the substrate and eating used up plant roots/ detritus. They also allow oxygenated water to flow through the substrate, preventing the buildup of hydrogen sulfide gas pockets. If I were I snail, I'd be quite...

    Strange Heater

This problem could be developing because the heater is going out. Could be a bad thermostat, or a few other things. However, you should look into squeezing a 5-10 gallon tank for your QT. 5gal and under generally have a difficult time keeping regulated temperatures because of the low volume...

    Betta In Fluval Edge Tank

To the OP: What did you decide? I really hope you did not elect to put the betta fish in it. I'm not going to chastise you for trying, but limiting the surface area for this fish isn't something you should do. I'm the first one to stand up and tell people to back off with their ignorant...

    Pectoral Fin Rot?

A betta moving too quickly! I don't believe you =O A picture will always help. I highly recommend you stop using the medicines. API has two products called Melafix and Pimafix. The former is used mainly for healing damaged fins/ scales, and the latter is used for fungus. Both treat fin rot...

    Very Sick Betta Needs Help

Everyone can relax. Dr. Brandon has arrived. Ok, your Betta looks fine from the video. If he's eating normally, I wouldn't worry. If you're worry stems from the fins that used to be blue and are now white (guessing), I wouldn't fret. Some bettas marble. I've bought more than one that were...

    Bad Case Of Finrot?

It's Moneywort. I have problems getting this plant to root in unseeded substrates, like plain gravel or sand. I use Eco-Complete in all my tanks now however, and have to trim it regularly. I think I've read that this plant needs soil rich in iron and potassium- which doesn't really make sense...

    Lack Of Females :(

Try Aquabid. It's expensive, but the fish are hardy. I buy all my females from the local PetCo. These tend to not be very hardy though. At times I've experienced about a 50% death rate within the first three or so days. However, they do have a 30 day guarantee on their livestock, so I...

    Male Betta Died :(

Hey Beth, is the pic in your sig the tank you kept him in? When I was keeping bettas in my 20gal, I found that after I blacked out the rear of the tank, they didn't stress out as much. I used "Flat Black" Krylon spraypaint. It worked out so well that I've made it a practice to have the backs...
