I have a 10 gallon tank for my tropical fish and just a bowl (maybe 1 gal) for my betta. I was just wondering if i can just put any of them together... my betta seems lonely... or is he?

I've read somewhere that a male Betta can be kept with other type of fish... such as a platy... is this true? If not, can they be kept with another fish at all?
