    Cleaning Questions

Hi all........I would like to remove a good proportion of the gravel in my tank. In parts it is 2 inches thick, which I have just learned is a pretty bad idea in my very small, 9 month old tank :(. I'd like to get rid of the majority, rinse some with clean water, and return just a quarter inch...

    Guppies In Trouble

So maybe if I switch to something else, I'll have more luck and won't be cruelly despatching guppies needlessly?? I liked the black skirt tetras, they were entertaining...just liked the prettier look of the guppies....

    Guppies In Trouble

Ah.....now a clean box in the top of the tank I can do!! Thanks for that tip. Once I isolate him, is there anything else I can do for him? I have some Melafix and tonic salts, but nothing else in the way of medication. I have given them peas in the past, but they weren't that interested...

    Guppies In Trouble

There's only one sponge...I rinsed it, as I mentioned, in tank water. LFS said rinsing the sponge thoroughly would decrease the rate at which algae was developing (I moved to a much brighter house, plus I was originally overfeeding). I don't think he is injured, he doesn't appear distressed -...

    Guppies In Trouble

Thank you for those replies. I had water tested (after the first death) by reputable LFS - they said stats were fine, and that shrimp wouldn't add to the load? They recommended shrimp as I was getting some algae, also hence the water test. I got a decent kit and now check the stats every...

    Another Newb

Thanks! Yes Maidenhead are a bit pricey, I paid a lot for the testing kit. Got £72 worth of master kit for £35 - a bit excessive for 23 litres maybe, but I like to do things properly :) - even so I could have got a version of it on ebay for about £17. At least I know I've got a genuine kit...

Yup, that was my first fish death and I didn't like it at all! I felt quite distressed all day, but then I am great big pansy. :) Hate to see living creatures suffering, and all that. The LFS did indicate that the shrimp would not eradicate the problem, but that they were keen algae eaters -...

    Another Newb

Hello.....been looking for a nice friendly forum and stumbled across this one. :) I'm new to the hobby....I set up a 23 litre Fluval Edge about 4 months ago, and I did have 8 male guppies (it just went down to 7). I'm an avid reader and follower of instructions, so I've been quite good at...
