As mentioned the water seems fine. Nitrite at 0, ammonia at 0, and Nitrate varys from 10-20 depending on when water change was done. This has remained constant since the tank cycled 2 months ago. the other fish I have are as follows.
6 Danios
4 Cherry Barbs
10 Golden Barbs
4 Lemon Tetras
4...
Over the last day or so I have noticed that the fins on my Danios are starting to look very frayed at the edges, with some with quite large area missing from them. The fish seem happy enough, and they do not seem to have been chased any more than normal. I have had them for about a month now...
Thanks for all the replies, will give me something to think about. Will be making a trip to my lfs to look at the different species and will make my decision from there.
Thanks again
Firstly, thanks to all who have helped me get to where I am today. After a few serious problems at the beginning, I now have a tank that is running nicely and has a good selection of fish in it. :D
Currently I have the following fish in a 180l tank:
6 Danios
4 Cherry Barbs
4 Lemon Tetras
4...
Have just bought some frozen bloodworms, but forgot to ask my lfs how to use them. Do I put the block in whole or thaw it out first?
Sorry if this is a really daft question.
Many thanks
After a difficult time in the beginning, my tank has now cycled and will soon be adding to the eight fish I have at the moment. I currently have 180l tank with 4 cherry barbs and 4 danios (2 zebra and 2 spotted). I would like to add either some small catfish or some clown loach? not sure which...
Good news! Got back from my business trip and my readings are now as follows.
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 20
Will check it again over the next 2 days, but looks like I will be purchasing some fish on Monday!
Any thoughts as to how many I should go for? I dont want to mess the...
Thanks for the reply. It will have to be a case of being patient anyway as I am away on business for a few days so would not be able to do anything else until I get back. Think that may be blessing. Will check the water for a couple of days when I get back and hopefully all should be well.
Thanks for the reply.
Checked the levels again last night, no ammonia, nitrite @ 0.5, and nitrate @ 40. How does this sound? The nitrite has definately dropped since earlier in the week, am I reaching the end of the cycle?
Here goes for a stupid question.
Skimpy, you have said that you have fed you tank 'flake', is this food flakes? My local store says this (ie overfeeding) may have been a cause for the nitrite spike in the first place?
OK, think that is settled then, think I will keep with the water and carry on fishless. Do I purchase ammonia from my pet shop or will I have to go to a chemist?
Thanks for the reply.
Will I need to keep adding ammonia? I thought that once the cycle had got to the nitrite stage, the ammonia stage was complete as the bacteria were converting the ammonia present into the nitrite which is now present?
