I appreciate your input ,as I said I'm kind of new to this. What would you suggest instead of the ammonia? Does the sand serve as a bio median or is it just taking up space.

If you can stand on that comfortably with no wiggle I would say no reinforcement is necessary if does wiggle or feel uncomfortable I would probably use L bracket in all the corners to strengthen it good luck and be careful.
