Switched from gravel to sand for my corydoras, and still worried about their barbels

Another update: I added prazipro into the tank for parasites. I noticed that many of the livebearers I get from the store seem to suffer from that. I also saw the cories flicking a couple times on the sand. 3 days after adding it, it seems one has gained weight. Looks more rounded, maybe...

    5 gallon planted stocking?

I agree with this. I had a betta in a 3.7 gallon. I added a small mystery snail and he bit off its antennae and it died... Yours is better though as its 5 gallons. I might recommend putting the snail in first and adding the betta after so he doesn't think its his territory. Or even a female...

    12L (3ish Gallon) Tank Ideas

This is so exciting! I have a 3.6 gallon tank with a tiny heater and a small filter. I am putting driftwood, sand, and plants in. Currently planting it up and letting it get balanced. It has a couple baby guppies in it right now, one cherry shrimp and a nerite snail. I want to make sure I can...

Switched from gravel to sand for my corydoras, and still worried about their barbels

UPDATE: I cleaned the sand with a siphon and did a 50% water change. Two days later I siphoned the sand again and did a 40% water change. Then two days later did a 30% water change. Then 3 days later another 30% change. I am now doing a 25% water change each week. Also the GH was around 10, I...

Switched from gravel to sand for my corydoras, and still worried about their barbels

I have been slowly adding pieces of wood. I want to plant the tank more, I just only buy a couple plants at a time since they are at least $5 each. (been waiting to trade in guppy babies for plants). The water I have here is actually very soft water, only the ph is high. GH/KH both very low, so...

Switched from gravel to sand for my corydoras, and still worried about their barbels

Was doing some more reading online, and that even with the gravel it probably would have been ok. It seems to only be getting worse. One has almost no barbels at all now and his nose is quite red. He seems irritated and rubs his face on the sand. I was thinking about getting some meds for...

Switched from gravel to sand for my corydoras, and still worried about their barbels

I wish my ph was a bit more neutral. Most of my tanks naturally sit around 7.8. I only have one that sits around 7.2, cause it has wood in it.

sifted the gravel through a strainer. Does this look like it should be a fine size?

    12L (3ish Gallon) Tank Ideas

It has a small sponge filter, and a heater. Temperature stays pretty consistent at 78. Right now it has one cherry shrimp, two nerite snails and two baby guppies. One guppy is .75 inches and the other is maybe .3 inches. The nitrates never get over 5ppm with 0 nitrites and 0 ammonia. It also has...

    12L (3ish Gallon) Tank Ideas

Following this thread because I have a 3.7 gallon (15litre). I didn't see any recommendations for water changes. Can anyone recommend? Should it be higher since it is tinier?
