Sorry about that, I missed it!   I would do a 50% water change to lower the Nitrite and Ammonia.

I would not recommend goldfish to a beginner unless they are willing to pony up the dough it takes to properly raise them, goldfish are quite expensive to keep, especially if you want to keep more than one, they are very messy fish and require a far more active maintenance schedule than most...

I had a phantom pregnancy once due to my dogs being too curious about the rabbit... always sucks to have that happen.

As they have said, your media should be ok... and please do get that API master tester... having accurate readings is very important. ;)

As long as the fish you keep aren't burrowing fish, then having a bare bottom tank shouldn't be a problem at all, as long as you provide lot of hiding places for your betta. I love bare bottom tanks, WAY easier to clean, and you can make them look pretty with simplicity.

I feel that all fish have different personalities, in there own little unique way... while their overall demeanor may be the same, there personalities can be quite different. Some species show more personality than others... I've never had corys, but I've kept a few other fish, goldfish...

Just did another test:   Ammonia: 0.25ppm Nitrite: 0ppm Nitrate 5.0ppm   (I'm thinking that yesterday it was in between 0.25ppm and 0.50ppm as it was a darker shade of light green, although not quite the green of 0.50ppm. Today it is much lighter and an undeniable match to 0.25ppm)
