I only use pool filter sand in my sand tanks. I have enver had it get sucked up in a filter as long as the intake is about 6-8 inches up from the top of the sand. This sand is the best since it looks so natural and is heavy in the water, so it does not get stirred up easily.

If you could switch the intake/outlet, that would create better circulation of the water current. Other than that, it looks good to me.

As a gift for a small kid, sure, get em. But if your concerned with "paying for what you get", check a LFS. Mine sells brine shrimp for $1 a bag, and trust me, you get THOUSANDS. Not sure about every other LFS, but most have them like this.

I would do the 330 w/biowheel. I now run 2 older 160's on a 29gal(had them laying around, put em to use). While I like aquaclear, I dont use them in some tanks because it can make a more powerful water current. That's ok depending on what type of tank your doing. But you can never go wrong...

At one time, I had about 50 tiger barbs in a 55gal tank. I had a nice variety of the regular ones, green ones, orange, and the purple ones. Just about every variety I could find. It looked really cool and the fish were quite happy and healthy.
