Evil black grey algae has taken over my tank.

Eughhh...bleach. This sounds like it will have an effect on the fish far worse than the algae. Does anyone know if siamese algae eaters will eat this dark grey stuff? My clown loaches and my red tail shark and pleco don't seem particularly interested. Should I dump all my plants and...

Evil black grey algae has taken over my tank.

My tank has been taken over by a dark grey hairy algae, growing on plants, artificial plants and even on my bogwood. The plants are looking pale and feeble. The fish don't seem too worried. Anybody had a similar experience? How do I get rid of it? It would be nice if something would eat it, but...

    nasty little fish

Thanks: I like the idea of moving the decor to confuse their little fishy brains. I will get another leopard danio tomorrow, if it doesn't work out I can always take them back.

    nasty little fish

3 foot tank, not overstocked. My single rainbow fish has been the model of fishy behaviour, until the addition of a single leopard danio last week. Rainbow takes an immediate dislike to Danio and chases him around the tank, despite being about an inch smaller- for hours! After putting up with...

one of my tetras is going crazy

He swims up and down in a loop at the far end of the tank. The water is OK, the rest of the fish are fine, He had ich about a month ago, but it has not reappeared. Is he just a crazy fish?

    gourami laying around

mine did this, then hid behind the filter, then was found dead on the bottom. :( Is he eating? if not I reckon you have one sick fish. Is he gasping for breath? I dunno- water change, again, monitor parameters, look for signs of a parasite, errr hopefully someone will have more ideas than me :)

    what are GH levels

I was asked on the fish emergencies what my GH levels. I have no idea what this means, nor a test for them. What other things apart from Ammonia nitrites nitrates and PH do people test for? I guess I'm not the only one in the dark. thanks Stuart

    help..sick dwarf coral gourami

Alas Ralph went to fishy heaven a few hours after I posted. I think you're probably right about ich in the gills having affected him. The behaviour was as if he had trouble with respiration. Maybe something else on top of that. I haven't used my frozen blood worm for a few weeks as I was worried...

    help..sick dwarf coral gourami

water has zero nitrites, zero ammonia and PH about 7.6 everyone else in the tank seems fine, though I treated for ich about a week and a half ago. no sign of it now. Over the last week or so Ralph the gourami has been off his food. not like him he's generally first to the surface. He looks...

    fish inches

I like the fish factor idea. I can figure out fairly easily the relative body mass. More difficult is the "dirty"factor. I am told goldfish produce more waste. Any other fish on the "dirty fish" list??

    fish inches

I don't really buy the whole "fish inch" idea. :/ ie 1 fish inch per gallon Some fish are small and screawney whilst others for the same length have much more body mass. Also it seems that some fish are "dirtier" than others. I assume its to do with the amount of food they consume...

    SNAILS

mmmm...Quite possibly malaysian ice cream snails.. Did a water change today and degunked the filter, to find even more little babies inhabiting the crevices. Its getting like invasion of the body snatchers... :alien: I think its time to lure them with some tasty cucumber. and I know that...

    SNAILS

Hi folks: its 20 uk gallons. they seem to have conical pointy shells if that helps? I am planning to get three small clown loaches in a few weeks, when I'm sure my tank is fully cycled and disease free. until then I will cucmber cull if they get out of hand. The plants seem OK however, they...
