Agreed - only Bettas ever seen in stores here are VT's.

Thanx for the advice :) We're nowhere near actually breeding yet, so don't worry - it's just an idea that we're starting to research.

She has the white spot, and her belly has definitely got a lot bigger - she just seems so small, I don't want to put her into something she's not ready for.

How can you tell when a female is ready to breed? Our red girlie is apparently 6 - 12 months old, but she'd tiny! Smaller than some of the juvenile guppies she's living with at the moment. She seems perfectly healthy and happy, just so small.

I've had bloodworm breed in containers in my garden before, but there always seems to be one bloodworm to about 100 black mosquito larvae.

Danios are very good jumpers - as I found when trying to protect my fry from the ones my ex bought... :(

Thanx again people :) I've decided to rehome some guppies before this happens, one tank is ok - but the one in the kitchen is very close to being over-stocked. I'd rather rehome a few than take a chance.

Despite our best efforts, our sick blue VT died a short while ago :-( He had seemed a bit brighter, was moving around more and showing interest in food... we were hoping for a better outcome :-( RIP little one.

Hi :) There's a "planned disruption" of our electricity next week - it'll be off from about 9am, until 4pm, essential upgrade work apparently. We've got two 2ft community tanks - and one tiny tank currently housing a sick Betta boy. I've ordered two battery powered air pumps to keep the air...

Thanx :) He's in a tank on his own, and there's a treatment in his water - will see how he gets on, he's a lovely boy so hopefully we can make him feel better.

Hi My blue VT boy isn't doing too well - he's not eating and looks thin, hasn't even been doing his "job" of controlling the guppy population. The guppy fry started to nip at him, so we've put him on his own in a 2 gallon tank to stop this. He does seem to have picked up a little, but still...

I was actually thinking TB too. With things like this, I generally talk to my vet - he's not an expert, but is well networked and able to find out what is needed most often.

I was once told that the best way to start a tank cycling, was to keep a goldfish in it for a while... I prefer to buy bacteria in a bottle, or even better, innoculate it using a bit of water/bacteria from someones established tank :)
