I have just got back from holiday and bought some shells from a shop, they are not painted and have no varnish on them. I was wondering if it was ok to put in my tank........ I was going to soak them for a few days in water from the tank before doing this.... The tank is established(5 years)...

Correct me if I am wrong, but my local LFS man said I would be ok going away for 5 days, feeding fish before I go and then leaving them. They find leftovers from pervious feeds to get by on, and I have aplanted tank, so they pick at these too. The light is on a timer so that is not affected...

I bought some mollies to begin with and they loved the beard algae. Then I got a siamese algae eater, as my daughter wanted the mollies in her tank. Seems to be working fine. Also, you could try running with RO water, as beard algae seems to flourish with high phosphates levels. Worked for...
