    You could try hatchets. They do well in a school, are surface fish, and fit all your criteria. Marbled hatchets are nice, or for a bit of colour influence, albino hatchets are readily available, and look cool.

    Lill Swordtail In Filter

    Every time we've had fry, some of them have ended up in the filter. Some have survived, some haven't. Our Khuli loaches love our filter, and our killifish is regularly found in there. Not a nice place to live, but inebitable at some point if there are big enough gaps in the filter.
