My Boesemani do exactly the same thing: I think it's a kind of courtship as usually is the male that does it with one of the females. Boesemani share the tank with a male betta and an epalzeorhynchus siamensis and actually the one who dominates is the betta: the boesemani are quite submitted...

my boy is dark red; my girls: one is white with reddish/bluish fins :wub: , another one is kind of dark blue and purple and the third one is purple.
