Why quarantine tanks are so important

I've just had to learn the hard way. I had a few tetras, dwarf gourami and a bristlenose pleco living happily for over a month. I decided to go to the LFS and get 3 tiger barbs. I put them in, after letting the bag sit in the tank for 1hr. Two days later, a tiger bard is dead. The next day...

    Sick Tetra

Here's another pic. THe 'sick' tetra is the one at the botttom. You can see that the other tetras look healthy and and as skinny.

    Sick Tetra

Hi all, I've had these rummynose tetras for over 2 weeks now. They seem very happy and they tend to eat well. One tetra however seems to be very very thin, and the other tetras usually don't swim with it. The past few days when feeding, I noticed that this lonely tetra didn't eat anything at...

    Flame Gourami

I think it is a dwarf gourami. The label at the LFS said 'flame gourami'. Here is a pic of it. Are you able to tell if it is male or female? Also, will any other type of gourami be OK or do I need to add two more flame gourami's?

    Flame Gourami

I added a flame gourami to my tank today. It seems very quiet and minds it's own business, but I did notice it chase one of the neon tetra's today. I'm just wondering if he is all alone, and should I go get another flame gourami?

    Standard Light Enough?

I do have two plants at the moment, and they don't seem to be doing too well. A lot of brown algae on them, and some leafes are dying. Thanks for the tip on algae eating fish, I'll go out and get one.

    Standard Light Enough?

My tank came with an inbuilt hood. The lights included are two mini fluro's. 14000k, 18w each. Thats 36w total for a 90litre tank (approx 23 gallon US). Is this a little on the weak side? I do have a bit of brown algae growing in my tank too.

    Lost a Rummy nose

Well, last week I reported that my tank had successfully cycled and I had added 5 neon tetras and 5 rummy nose tetras. It took a while for the fish to settle in and they seem to be doing a little better now. Tonight, I was taking a look at them and noticed 1 rummy nose missing. It turns out...

    why this brown algae

Hi All, I also am experiencing some brown alage, however it is ONLY on my plants. I don't see this algae anywhere else? Could this also be related to low light levels? My lights are the standard set that came with the tank and are on for about 12 hours a day.

    New fish are in

Hi Benny, The tank is 90 litres. Thanks for the tip about clown loaches. It's good to know that I'm not the only person scaring the poor tetras!

    New fish are in

After successfully cycling my tank, I went out today and purchased some fish. The LFS didn't have what I wanted, 6 lemon tetras, so I went for 5 neon tetras and 5 rummynose tetras. I'm not sure what it is with these fish, but it isn't hard to scare the living daylight out of them. If I come...

    Tank Pump

I have a tank in my room.....I was wondering if the tank pump needs to stay on 24 hours a day, or if it was OK to shutdown the pump for 8 hours or so a night? This keeps the noise levels down and lets me sleep a bit better :)
