Hi, yes a beige colored sand would be suitable, its for a 10 gallon betta tank set up which I,m considering, Thanks for your advice.

Yeah, I probably will go for pool filter sand ,though its not really a question of cost,its just that I,m searching for a nice white coloured sand.

Hi Everyone, Just a thought,I was wondering if its possible to use sand taken from a beach as substrate in a freshwater aquarium, Obviously it would need to be thoroughly washed, I,m just abit unsure as to the salt content and the effect it would have on the set up.

I didn,t say I wasn,t getting any ammonia reading until six weeks, I was continually getting a reading of just 1 ppm,I decided to plant the tank heavily when setting up and see how the cycle progressed, However I,ve now added ammonia to try and speed things up.

Hi, I,ve recently bought a Sun Sun 303B cannister filter for my new 60 gallon set up, It features a UV sterelizer which is the bit that puzzles me as I,ve never used this type of filter before,Whilst I know it helps to prevent algae growth I,m not sure when or how often the UV switch should be...

Well. I attached a small fan on both ends of the tank and its dropped by 2 degrees, Obviously there is evaporation which you get here anyway due to the high humidity . Next month things start cooling down a bit here(Philippines) so hopefully things will get easier, thanks for your comments guys.

Unfortunately we dont have air con downstairs, just wall fans, but thats something I might try a large standing fan, Thanks.
