It only makes a noise just before it blows the air out otherwise its quiet.

After fitting a new fluval 304 external filter we keep getting gushes of air pumped into the tank. There are no kinks in the pipes nor no air stones in the tank . Are we doing anything wrong or is it a faulty filter its been hapnin for 2 days .
