    Fluval vs API pH Discrepancy

Thanks, just repeated both with same discrepancy, and both kits within expiry date. I then used both on tap water - 6.0 on Fluval and 7.0-7.2 on API. The API best corresponds to the info given by my water supplier so sticking with it for the time being - agreed the Fluval is off, disappointing...

    Fluval vs API pH Discrepancy

I have been using API pH tests and consistently landing at 7.6 on the low range test and 7.4 on the high range, which I had been assuming put me at 7.5-ish. Got the Fluval wide range test to try and cover the 'blind spot' between the low and high range results on API but it's vastly different -...

Tank temperature increases and how to handle them

Hi Colin, I'm in QLD and have come home to a 30 plus deg tank with the heater off, have guppies, endlers and an albino cory, based on your WA experience do you think this is problematic or okay if I’m running an airstone and have plenty of surface agitation? Should I keep the lights off when...

Stocking Advice - Medium (?) Hardness

Thanks for the advice all, will do some more testing and see what the source is. Have also just realised I probably should have let the tap water sit for 24 hrs before testing, it may be the source of hardness after all. The tank is 40x32x40ish, 51L, with the back section with equipment...

Stocking Advice - Medium (?) Hardness

Hi everyone, Am happy my first tank is properly cycled and am about to start stocking slowly. I'm unsure if I should be going for hard or soft water fish - parameters seem somewhere in between. It's 57L/15G, have it at 25 deg. and moderately planted up. Tank pH 7.6, GH 179, KH 107 Tank after...

Cycling - start again or be patient?

Thanks for the great advice. I'll def get a few more then, the embers look nice. Have read the max no. of fish should be 1cm per 1L of water, does this hold true? Also looking at other beginner fish such as guppies and Pygmy gouramis down the track.

Cycling - start again or be patient?

Hi, Photo attached, 15 gallon Fluval Flex. Think I’ve received bad advice from the aquarium shop, was told an initial Ammonium dose was enough, assume my plants used it up before nitrites established? Have started again and seem to headed in the right direction I hope - Amm Day 1 1.5, now Day 3...

    Hello

Hi there, Thanks for adding me to your forum. I had some humble goldfish as a teenager that I loved, and my parents also maintained a beautiful tropical tank, have been keen to get back into the hobby for quite some time. I'm setting up a small tropical tank and am amazed at the science...

Cycling - start again or be patient?

Hello, thanks for adding me. A novice here trying to fishless cycle and have only just found the great guides on here. Am 18 days in and have ammonia, nitrites and nitrates all reading 0, pH 8.0, have only just gotten my test kit today. Initially added some liquid ammonia but half the amount...
