Did about another 80 percent water change. By the way i have a 40 gallon tank. Going to keep the lights off for a bit and make sure to only run them a few hours a day

I have my light on 24/7 which i now realize could contribute to the algae,,,   i have two t5 bulbs... one for plant growth and one to replicate daylight, i will keep both lights off for a good amount of the day starting now.

Day 7 - 1/31/14   Nothing new to talk about. Really no updates except that i dropped the temp to about 79 degrees, so heres the parameters; Temp: 79 degrees pH: 8.1 Ammonia: 4 ppm Nitrite: 0 ppm Nitrate: 0 ppm   Hopefully nitrites show up sometime soon! i want fish already!!! 

Thanks for the response. I think what happened is i may have not been paying attention during my first test. A higher pH like the 8.2 sounds more like what i have been seeing lately. I'll keep my eye on it though! thanks again

Thanks for the response! The dechlorinator im using is aquasafe plus by tetra. And i did make sure to rinse the gravel i put in, i think i did a pretty thorough job but i could have missed a bit. I also realized that since i put the lid on the temp went WAY up, probably almost 8 degrees so i...

Update: i noticed that over the past two days my pH level dropped SIGNIFICANTLY from 8.1 two days ago to 6.2 today. I added water yesterday that i added a dechlorinator to, any ideas? i also added a few artificial plants to the tank yesterday. Temp is a steady 84 degrees. I also just got a top...
