Hi I'm looking to start my own business eventually named family aquatics I'm just trying to learn as much information as I can about fresh water fish

Hi! It’s great that you’re taking the time to learn about a wide variety of freshwater fish before launching Family Aquatics. Oscars, Neon Tetras, Guppies, Bettas, GloFish, shrimp, and other tetras all have different care requirements, so focus on understanding water parameters, tank size...

    What are you feeding currently?

Nice variety! I’ve been using NorthFin Community flakes for my tetras and they seem to love it. The quality is great and it doesn’t cloud the water much. For my bottom feeders, I usually drop in some Hikari sinking wafers right before I turn the lights off. I also try to do frozen mysis shrimp...

    Hi all

Just a quick heads up, those plants clipped to the back (looks like Pothos/Devil's Ivy) are amazing for keeping the water clean, but make sure only the roots and stems stay submerged. If the leaves stay underwater for too long, they might start to rot and mess with your water quality.

    Tropical fish pond

Sting algae is such a pain... I’ve found that Siamese Algae Eaters do a decent job if you don't overfeed the other guys. With a pond that big, you could easily add another 20-30 fish without even noticing. I remember browsing Next Day Koi for some pond-hardy species because I wanted stuff that...

I need this aquarium stuff gone today!

In my experience, about half the time it is just someone moving house at the last minute who realized a glass tank is heavy and annoying to pack. But you are right to be cautious. If the price is "free" and they seem way too desperate, there is a good chance someone is getting their stuff sold...

    What are you doing today?

That is a busy day! Replacing a catalytic converter is no joke, so it is cool you got to do that with your dad. Since you are a "Plant Man" and into planted tanks, you might find that using the grass clippings from that lawn as mulch for a garden or even composting them helps keep the soil...

    What are you cooking?

That cauliflower is actually called Romanesco! It looks like something from another planet because of those patterns, but it tastes like a mix between broccoli and regular cauliflower. If you have more left, try roasting it with some olive oil, salt, and maybe a squeeze of lemon. It gets a nice...

Starting up my small aquatic plant business, this is the journal.

Since you've thrived without social media or a smartphone, the takeaway for others might be: credibility first, distribution second. Still, in 2025, buyers start with Google. A clean listing, a few honest reviews that mention the species by name, and a simple availability page can pull in the...

    enlarged/swollen stomach, bulging eyes

Yeah, that’s worrying, especially with a pattern like this. If it’s hitting multiple fish months apart, I’d be leaning toward a bacterial infection. I’d pull the sick ones, run an internal antibiotic like Kanaplex, and give them Epsom salt baths to help with the swelling. Keep your main tank...

Scarlet badis looks like he's dying

You could try offering a small live food feeding and turning lights down to reduce stress, sometimes they bounce back if it’s just a short-term issue. But given his symptoms and how fragile scarlet badis can be, I’d also prepare for the possibility he won’t recover. If he’s clearly suffering...

Nothobranchius - trying short lived killifish

This is the coolest post I’ve read in a while. I’ve kept Apistos and a few soft water killies, but never dabbled in annuals. The whole dry incubation thing blows my mind. Like, imagine being frozen in mud for months just… waiting for rain. Insane evolutionary adaptation

    A day out...

Sounds like a rollercoaster of a day, some wins with the fish and the market haul, then total chaos with the trains. Can’t blame you for skipping the maintenance after that mess

Betta - localized pineconing, no other symptoms?

Your betta’s not dying. The fact he’s acting normal is huge. Keep treating, add salt, leave him in the hospital tank for now. If he stays the same or improves, great. If he gets worse, then maybe escalate. But right now, you’re on track
