My malawi tank is overstocked, and if I run it without carbon, the water gets gross. I also put lots of extra carbon in my Emperor and Aquaclear filters. I also change it bi-weekly. Now if you only have a few fish, you probably don't need to run carbon.

Don't bother running an airstone unless its a tall narrow tank. A standard HOB filter provides enough agitation for the oxygen exchange.

I wanted one basically for the UV function, and of course added filtration in a messy cichlid tank is a must :)

Are you following the API instructions to the letter? Shake bottle 2 for 30 seconds. When you are all mixed up, shake the vial for 1 minute.

So, that looks like a Rainbow Dwarf. Possible DGD. Watch it for the next couple of days. If it does not improve, you should euthanize it. Please do not buy Dwarf Gouramis. I swear, 75% of the ones I had bought over time got DGD.

That's actually pretty cool. When I started my first tank, I had nobody to give or sell me mature media. I had to learn about cycling the hard way :(

Why was 100% of the water changed? There are far too many things that can go wrong if you do such a large water change.

Does APS have any externals in stock? Last I checked, they had nothing in stock lol

Just remember, Malawis are herbivores. Almost all food meant for herbivores will be fine for your fish.
