    In my opinion, the Hygger works just as well as the Python does. The Python is a much nicer vacuum but is much more expensive. Now that is just for the vacuum only setups. For your needs with a small tank the Hygger will do just fine for less money. But, the decision is up to you. I'm very happy...

    The bacteria resides on the substrate and the filter media. Cleaning the substrate and preforming water changes will not harm the bacteria. 😉

    Yes, I do have that one. I have used it for a few years now and it is still working very well.

    Both, to do just a water change just keep the tube above the substrate. It also has a clip so you can regulate the water flow by pinching the hose with it.
