just a side thought that came to me, how do you have your media arranged in the filter? im only wondering as i had a really fine foam at the top nearest the impellor and it would on occasion get sucked up and jam the impellor or impede its performance. might not be but just a side thought

if the sponge is pulling up when running then the flow is getting restricted a bit, try it with the original intake if you dont have fry and see if the same happens

have you checked the inlet to the filter in the tank, whenever mine got blocked it reduces the flow and gives the gravelly sound as it isnt getting enough water to pump

also fish of the month, while my tank is nothing to shout about i have a few pretty fish and the FOTM comp was always well filled

mines been running constant in my tank for about 4 years now. never broke down, i wrap a little bit of foam around the feet and hold on with an elastic band to stop the noise worrying me.

Outlet from your filter if you have an external it swirls the water around the bowl gives same flow but a lot less current

at most just a few individual tank if it grows as quick as i remember. at some point its to fill the top of a 10 foot tank

a few plants wouldnt go amiss in there, he looks lovely :)

with regards to flow, on my old betta tank i had one of these on the outlet of the filter https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01MUDDDS6/?tag= having it half above the water half below it slowed the oultet so he could swim about and also aerated the water nicely.

yeah i know, its on my to do list, working nights atm so i go home, sleep, wake up, work, repeat making home life hard really it will be done though :)

Hi thanks for your replies. I dont have a mirror home atm will buy one soon, if theres another way to make him flare please let me know. Would be nice if he changes colour but i love his colours now. Heres another pic of him and a fts.
