    Quikrete play sand

I used crushed coral in my 90g mauna tank. Our Ph is very low where we are and the crushed coral was very efficient as a constant buffer.

    Gourami being territorial…help!!

Moving things around should help. I used to do that with my mbuna tank when some bully would start up. It always slowed down the aggression. Let us know what happens...

Parents won't let me have a big fish tank

Then move out? Find a roommate and rent your own digs, if you're old enough. If you do lease an apartment, make sure your landlord will allow a large tank in their rental property. .

Strange grey color to the water

I'd do a more robust water change. I used to do 30% water changes weekly on a 90g african cichlid tank. My opinion, mind you, but a 5g water change on a 55g, is not even 10%. Maybe try increasing your next water change to at least 15g (just under 20%) then wait about a week? I've read that...

Good plan to change out gravel. While you're at it, check that U/G Filter. I used to be a fan of them myself but I wouldn't use one again. How big is your tank?

    Returning to Fish Keeping

Hi Alex, I haven't gotten that far yet. I can tell you though that our tap water has a low pH and is very soft. That being said, I used crushed coral for our substrate, bumped up the pH, etc with a bunch of products and what comes to mind was Seachem Prime, for one. We did regular water...

    Returning to Fish Keeping

Thank you, Wills! I loved my mbunas but sadly, I don't have the floor space for a tank they require. I love the idea of Lake Tanganyikans and I don't know why I didn't think about that as an option! :) I know what you mean about the 'one tank' wishful thinking. I probably should have...

    Returning to Fish Keeping

Hi Everyone, After 10 or so, I'm considering starting a small freshwater tank. We used to keep mbunas and peacocks in a 90 gallon tank until we decided to get new floors:) I'm looking at no more than a 10 gallon tank and I'm hoping you guys can point me in the dire action of inhabitants that...
